The favorite complaint of all women is: I have nothing to wear…. This is true of all women of all shapes and sizes. How can it be. It just seems that way when you look in your closet. Pregnant women, on the other hand, often have nothing to wear. When you’re six months pregnant and standing in front of a closet full of clothes that don’t fit you anymore, it is time to run to the nearest maternity store.
In the past, new mothers were faced with a major identity crisis and style overhaul the moment they became pregnant. Department stores seldom carried maternity clothing, or if they did carry a small selection, the styles seemed to be geared to women far beyond the child-bearing years. These clothes were down-right hideous. Some girls had the benefit of being able to sew clothing of their own, or perhaps had a mother or close friend who could fashion a few pieces to get them by, but even still the sewing patterns were dated and frumpy, and materials were mostly unflattering.
Maternity wear is often over-priced and many mothers-to-be opt to buy large clothing rather than clothes made specifically for pregnancy. For some reason, once an item has the “maternity” label attached to it, it becomes pricy. Buying regular clothes in larger sizes is a good alternative for some thrifty ladies.
The hunt for the clothes can be tricky. Finding large clothing is not difficult but finding large clothing that looks good can be a challenge. There are certain things to look for when trying to dress your pregnant self.
Nobody knows better than an expectant mother how important support is during pregnancy. While close family, friends and pregnancy groups can offer much of the emotional support needed, the mother will have to rely on her husband and immediate family for financial and day to day support. However, there is yet another kind of support that is equally important and yet often overlooked. And this is the support that can be offered by the right maternity underwear.
Whatever the joys of having a baby are (I haven’t gotten there yet) they must be substantial for the human race not to have died out completely by this point. There is nothing, and I mean nothing in this world, more difficult and depressing than pregnancy. Your body swells up to a shape perfectly inconvenient for – well – everything. You get moody. You get strange food cravings at all hours, day and night. Your body becomes sensitive and generally grouchy and unhappy with you. But worst of all are the maternity clothes.
